Today, Paul "Hyper" Kontopanagiotis has announced his retirement from Rainbow Six Siege's competitive scene.
According to Hyper's announcement on Twitter, the Six Charlotte Major champion had "never planned on retiring this early but due to a couple reasons I have decided that now is the best time."
His professional debut came at the DreamHack Austin 2018 with Disrupt Gaming, where he competed alongside the current Oxygen Esports player Evan "Yoggah" Nelson. The eventual Six Invitational 2021 champion, Jason "Beaulo" Doty, was the team's coach.
Following the team's result in Austin, Hyper signed for mousesports, where he was one game away from qualifying for the Six Paris Major.
After representing mousesports and Rise Nation in Minors and regional competitions, Hyper signed for DarkZero Esports, where he competed in four Six Majors and three Six Invitationals.
Hyper's best result came in the Six Charlotte Major, where DarkZero Esports won the competition after defeating Astralis in the grand final.
Hyper and DarkZero Esports parted ways in Dec. 2022. Since then, he played for Mirage and beastcoast. Now, after five years, the player has decided to retire.
