Rainbow Six Siege's last update on the ongoing cheaters situation came on Dec. 15, with developers promising an update regarding the matter on Feb. 10. Well, check your calendars. The day has come, and Siege posted more information on the anti-cheater situation.
Ubisoft's Twitter thread includes information on the number of bans issued over the last 1.5 years, adding that "3,114 idle botters [were also banned] from November to January."
The good news is that Siege is not only focusing on detecting cheaters but also on "deploying hotfixes to address a number of system flaws." With that, the game's intention is to put to an end various cheats, including "instantly kill the whole lobby, drones crashing matches, and drones causing melee damage."
Rainbow Six Siege also announced their intentions of bringing in a new team member who would be focused on just "investigating cheat reports shared outside of the game."

Another part of the thread included comments on one of the players' main concerns over the phone number measure: fraudulent phone numbers. Beginning next season, players will have to add a phone number in order to play ranked — however, how can players be sure that cheaters can't get on their hands' unlimited cell phone numbers?
Siege stated: "We are working with a 3rd party on the eligibility of the phone numbers that will be accepted."
That's not all, as this "eligibility" will be "reevaluated" both parties "keep up with evolving spoofing technology."
Finally, Siege announced that an update on the cheater situation will be posted every month and a half, and has reminded the players how can they help. You just have to follow the next steps.
In terms of cheating, this is a breath of fresh air. These updates are very needed so people don't lose hope due to the alarming situation the game has gone through. Despite the issue is still far from being solved, these measures are very appreciated.
