Destiny 2 The Finale Shape will feature a Power Level rework

New players will have it easier

Destiny 2 The Final Shape will rework Power Level (PL) to make it more approachable for newcomers to engage with high-end activities or play with friends who have a significantly higher PL.

Announced on the April 25 This Week in Destiny 2 blog post, Bungie revealed a new feature called Fireteam Power. With FP, the player with the biggest PL in a squad will act as the Power Leader and will bump up their teammates up to five Power below them.

Bungie did specify the following: "Fireteam Power only affects activity difficulty, and your unadjusted Power level will still determine the Power of your rewards."

That means that, for example, if a team wants to tackle an activity that is set as 2005PL in difficulty, a player with 2000PL can bring teammates way below the threshold and they'll get bumped up to 1995. While the activity would still be tough, it will be playable for all members.

On top of that, Bungie announced that starting with The Final Shape, all gear with a power cap will no longer be hindered by it, giving old returning players the ability to use their gear in the battle against The Witness without feeling the need to grind for new one right away.

Keeping things easier for newcomers and returning players, the Soft Cap will only require 40 Power to reach. Soft Cap is a point in Destiny 2 where players will have to start tackling endgame activities to receive rewards that will put them past that threshold and into the Powerful and Pinnacle caps.

In total, the PL requirements will be as follows:

  • Power Floor: 1900
  • Soft Cap: 1940
  • Powerful Cap: 1990
  • Hard Cap/Pinnacle Cap: 2000

Veterans and hardcore players aren't being forgotten with all these changes, as Bungie is making the grind easier for those with more than one character.

This time, drops for all characters will be relative to the character with the highest PL. Example: You've spent your time grinding your Warlock to reach the Soft Cap and neglected your Hunter? Don't worry, every drop for your secondary character will already be set to the Soft Cap PL.

Finally, Bungie is making changes to rewards in Destiny 2. Players can now expect almost every reward source to drop powerful rewards with +1 power for players between the Soft and Powerful Cap.

This will help players reach the Powerful Cap gradually, without being limited to the weekly available Powerful rewards. Additionally, rewards purchased from vendors and Collections will have a minimum drop of 3 and 5 below your highest possible power, respectively.
