With the Six Invitational 2024 starting tomorrow, today we have a look at the teams and storylines of Group D!
Teams
Here's a brief look at all of the teams featured in Group D of the Six Invitational 2024!
Soniqs
Soniqs' year began with the addition of Ben "CTZN" McMillan right before the Six Invitational 2023. Following the European's adaptation to the squad, the team looked dangerous in Copenhagen, Denmark, as they reached the Major's Top 4.
After winning the North America League 2023 Stage 2, Soniqs headed to Atlanta as one of the main favorites to lift the trophy. Unexpectedly, the North American squad could only defeat Wolves Esports, as defeats against Bleed Esports, DarkZero Esports, and Team BDS saw the roster finishing in 14th - 12th place.
Shortly after the conclusion of the BLAST R6 Major Atlanta, the team announced the departure of Shaun "Gunnar" Pottorff. Eventually, the team added Jaylen "Ambi" Turk, who has just turned 18.
SCARZ
The Japanese team is the only squad to reach the BLAST R6 Major quarter-finals, as the team did so at the BLAST R6 Major Copenhagen.
As back-to-back Japan League champions, the black and red roster is seen as one of Asia's main threats at the Six Invitational 2024. The players have been competing together since mid-2022 and have the potential to upset some of the favorites in Brazil.
However, the team's most recent international performance was underwhelming. The team was sent home after a winless streak in Atlanta following defeats to G2 Esports, LOS, and Spacestation Gaming. According to Buccholz Points, the Japanese had the second-worst set of opponents, only behind Geekay Esports, who played two more matches.
LOS
The Brazilians had a bright start to the 2023 season after qualifying for the Six Invitational 2023. Unfortunately, the players couldn't make it to the BLAST R6 Major Copenhagen, which severely affected their chances of qualifying for the Six Invitational 2024.
During the summer off-season, the orange roster picked up the former FaZe Clan and MIBR player Gabriel "cameram4n" Hespanhol. Such an addition improved the squad massively as he added a lot of experience to the core.
Against all of the odds, the Brazilians reached the BLAST R6 Major Atlanta Grand Finals, which saw them climbing up to tenth place in the Global Standings.
FURY
While everyone talks about Bleed Esports' run in Atlanta, FURY's progress throughout the season shouldn't be ignored.
There's not much left from that FURY that went winless on Stage 1 of the APAC South 2022. The Thai squad won both splits of the Asia League 2023 and has qualified for the last three Six Majors. In Atlanta, the roster was close to upsetting DarkZero Esports as they were one round away from qualifying for Phase 2.
Team Falcons
Earlier this season, Team Falcons became the first roster from MENA to qualify for a Six Major as their victory at the MENA League 2023 rewarded the squad with a spot to compete at the BLAST R6 Major Copenhagen.
Although Team Falcons survived the initial group stage with wins against MNM Gaming and SANDBOX Gaming, the green roster couldn't get any wins during Phase 2 and was sent home quickly.
After a Top 4 performance at Gamers8 2023 and missing out on the BLAST R6 Major Atlanta after a second-place finish in the MENA League 2023 Stage 2, the Saudi Arabian-majority roster obtained just enough SI Points (355) to sneak into the Global Standings' Top 20.
Storylines
Here are the most exciting and interesting storylines from the Six Invitational 2024 Group D!
LOS' record against North American teams
Since Team oNe and LOS' partnership, the Brazilians have only lost one of the four BO3 series they have played against North American rosters.
At the Six Invitational 2023, the orange roster defeated Astralis and Oxygen Esports by 2-1 and 2-0, respectively. Five days after winning against the red roster, the Brazilians lost to Astralis after a maximum overtime defeat on the third map of the series.
More recently, LOS defeated DarkZero Esports by 7-5, 7-0 at the BLAST R6 Major Atlanta quarterfinals.
Group D includes fifteen Six Invitational rookies
Group D lacks storylines between the sides of the group for one reason: most of them are quite new at international Rainbow Six Siege.
While FURY's international debut came in Nov. 2022, both SCARZ and Team Falcons' first competition outside of their regions was the BLAST R6 Major Copenhagen.
Soniqs' only Six Invitational debutant will be the previously mentioned Ambi. Meanwhile, it will be the first time for everyone at Team Falcons and SCARZ too.
Last but not least, four of FURY's five players will make their Six Invitational debuts in Brazil with Sumate "i9" Srimabut as the only exception, as he played for Elevate at the Six Invitational 2022.
Twister's seventh Six Invitational as a coach
The Six Invitational 2024 will be Marlon "Twister" Mello's seventh Six Invitational as a coach. His debut came at the Six Invitational 2018, where he worked with Black Dragons.
Three months after being picked up by Ninjas in Pyjamas, the coach made his return to Brazil's top flight by becoming FaZe Clan's coach. He competed under the red roster at the Six Invitational 2019 and the Six Invitational 2020.
After a difficult initial season with FURIA Esports, Twister's boys qualified for the Six Invitational 2021. Eventually, the roster's consistency saw the team making it to the Six Invitational 2022 through the Global Standings.
Finally, Twister's most recent performance at the Six Invitational was last year, where he managed Team Secret.
